There are to major components to effective public participation:

  • Capturing the attention of the public
  • Providing a pleasant experience to the user

According to Mass Transit Magazine, Duracell has created a public outreach technique for local transit stops to engage and enhance the riders experience significantly. An initial trial was installed in Montreal where the public message was placed on the branded glass panel walls of the shelter in close proximity to designated locations for transit riders to touch. By touching the advertisements, the heaters were activated at the stations. This experience created several positive results:

  • First, it grabbed the attention of a rider to notice the chosen message
  • Second, it encouraged interaction of people to either join hands or at least chat with each other at the station
  • Third, it created a warmer more pleasant environment for the transit rider, which increased the likelihood of the riders using the service again
  • Finally, it spread the word of both the message and the experience to others in a positive way

This is one of the many ways to engage your audience. Click here to watch the video.
